I wasn't at these shows sadly but yesterday Josh and I gave them a really thorough listenin to. Asheville is a great city full of awesome people and you can really feel that at this show. The crowd is super loud and you can literally hear the energy emitting off of them. The show opens with a ball-busting Best Feeling, probably the best since the reunion. Kang's got his shit together and lands every lyric perfectly. The jams are mellow but solid. Nothing too spectacular goes on until towards the middle when then get to the jam in between the "felt like a fish" 1st and 2nd chorus. Other than the minor revurb issues Kang was having, everything about this Best Feeling is good. They straight break it down here and a really smooth transition into Mouna Bowa insues.
ReplyDeleteThis is where they kind of teeter off into something that just wasn't working. I usually love Mouna but this version seems very awkward. Hahn seems to be having a lot of trouble keeping the beat here, which throws the whole band off- Kang's violin is choppy and too slow and Billy is missing every other note on his strings it seems. All together not very impressed with this Mouna Bowa, although they did seem to pull together towards the end with an interesting Hahn solo. The crowd doesn't seem to mind either- there's screaming and hooting and hollering like crazy during the finish.
Next song is Sometimes a River---again. This is not my favorite song by even a long shot. But it seems to be one of Cheese's favs cuz they bust it out nearly every show since the reunion. Ugh. Still they expanded on it this time around with a really nice jam halfway through the song, which was a nice surprise.
The next song was Colorado Bluebird Sky- definitely one of my favorite new songs. The bring it home here with mind-blowing foot-stomping hands-to-the-heavens jams. This is the best Colorado Bluebird Sky I've heard, and a highlight of this show.
